Sexual Problems

Q:

Prostatitis

So, a few months ago I was informed that the stabbing pain in my prostate was prostatitis (a rather nasty and sometimes chronic condition). Now, after being given some medicine which sort-of worked (it helped with the stabbing pain, but there is still this feeling of having been hit in the crotch with a rubber mallet every now and then), I'm still having pain, especially on reaching orgasm...
Anybody have any suggestions on how I could alleviate this orgsam-related pain without prescription meds?
Thanks

that can be a painful condition for sure!! one thought that comes to mind, and one that you definitely want to cover with you doctor to make sure it doesn't aggravate the condition, a prostate massage. how you do it is up to you, but the orgasm is definitely better and it keeps the prostate healthy to boot.

I would have to agree that you probably should talk to your doctor if the pain continues, ESPECIALLY during orgasm. I'm sure there's ways to treat this without prescription but you should still get this advice from someone who is highly educated on the topic.

I definitely wouldn't want to take any chances with the prostate. It is the key to many great things in a man's life :)

Prostatitis is actually just inflammation of the prostate (the suffix itis just means inflamed, so tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, hepatitis is inflammation of the liver, etc).

So the diagnosis of prostatitis doesn't actually mean all that much. It's like saying you have a sore throat, it doesn't say what is causing the problem, just that you have a problem.

There are MANY causes for this. It could be bacterial, viral, age related, pressure on the prostate from other diseased tissue, neurological, from injury, or an immune system disorder (to name a few). This means that you have to go back to your dr and explain that the medication isn't working the best, so the doc can reevaluate you (probably meaning that he'll do more tests).

Some people have claimed that the following has helped, although I still strongly recommend talking to your doctor and continue with follow ups, to ensure that your minor problem doesn't turn into prostate cancer: Soaking in a warm bath (sitz bath), Limiting or avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and spicy or acidic foods, Sitting on a pillow or inflatable cushion, Avoiding bicycling or using a "split" bicycle seat, and even acupuncture.

I know that it would be nice to just take a vitamin and hope everything will be okay, but most of the non-prescription medication treatments are preventative. Once you have symptoms, the best thing is to talk to you doctor. If you doctor is really not helpful, try consulting a naturopath. They are a regulated profession, meaning that not just anyone can call themselves a naturopath, and they have educational requirements, rules, and regulations that they must follow.

Hopefully you can get some relief!

Well if orgasms are causing you pain you could try to stop having them. The best solution would probably be to go back to your doctor and tell them that the medication helped but hasn't solved the problem. Most medical problems have multiple treatment options and some work better for different people.
