Q:

Rules to Giving Out Your Number

What are some of the rules you set when giving out your number?

For example...

Do you have to know the guy before hand?
Does he have to ask for your number for you to give it to him?

Haha! I don't give out my number. I give out my e-mail address. I find it safer.

First of all, I find it easier to talk over msn, phone calls with people you don't know are awkward, and I find it less awkward online when breaks and pauses are okay (because there is an assumption you are doing other things as well).

Second, there is an electronic copy of your conversations. If something happens, and you need to call the cops in the future, e-mail exchanges are linked to an IP address, and conversations/e-mails are usually automatically saved so you can have proof if you ever need to go to the cops.

The problem doesn't exist so much with cell phones, but if you give out a home phone number to someone, then they can look up your address using that.

mostly though, I just find talking on the phone to strangers weird, and I prefer exchanging e-mails or talking on msn to talking in person.

But that's just me.
