Okay, they should have a section on the site called "gift giving" because there have been multiple posts about the etiquettes of gift giving and gift ideas.

Anyhoo, this is an awesome gift idea that I have done and it is always a hit, and always appropriate (well, maybe not for funerals, but even then, you could adapt it...)

It's called a Hugs and Kisses box. So, you get a bunch of chocolate Hershey's kisses, and then you want to get a series of paper strips. On the paper strips you want to write something about the person that you are giving the gift to. You want to write something positive about them, a trait that you like, a happy memory, how they have helped you, what you are thankful for, what you find beautiful about them, how they have changed your life, etc. You then attach these pieces of paper to the hershey's kisses. You then stick them in a nice box and present it to the person saying that if they are ever having a bad day, they can open the box and have a chocolate kiss and a verbal hug from you (something that makes them feel warm and fuzzy). It's a Hugs and Kisses box to cheer them up when they need it, and so that they know that you love them and care for them.

Great for significant others, best friends (although guys might not show it, they really like them too) and mothers. Grandparents like 'em too. Perfect gift for valentines, birthdays, christmas, and anniversaries. It has just the right mix of something that you can keep (the box), something bought (the chocolate), and something homemade/personalized (the pieces of paper).

Guarenteed to get at least one teary eyed "aww!" and plenty of hugs. Never seen a person whose heart was not melted.
