Best I've heard and actually used..

Used it on someone I kinda knew already but it was fun haha, I am not one for pick up lines.

Walk up to the person of interest and begin by asking:

"What do you like to eat for breakfast?"

Person hopefully replies with either "Why?" or "Uhmmm bacon and eggs?"

And you say either,

"So I know what to make you in the morning"

or

"Excellent! now i know what to make you in the morning"

Science says....

We've discussed a couple studies on this topic:

In one of them, the research question was exactly the above: Which pickup lines work the best? There were three categories: cutesy (read all the other answers except agrublev's for examples), innocuous ("hi, how are you"), and direct ("Hi, I'm kind of nervous about this, but..."). For the study run with a male approaching a female: You'll probably get a laugh from the first type...however, the study overwhelmingly showed that the latter two--the innocuous and direct approaches--worked best. For the study run with a female approaching a male: They all worked just fine. Apparently, show any interest and you've got his attention ;D.

Commentary (being female, I can only give this from the girl being approached perspective): First impressions are important, and it takes way too much time to fix a bad first impression. What the first type says, to me at least, is that the person feels it necessary to hide behind jokes. While such jokes are clearly communicating interest, why not just come out and say it? It's appropriate--and quite hilarious--for undergraduates to approach each other in such a manner; after all, that's the time for stories to be lived and fun to be had. After college, however, I don't think it's really appropriate to approach someone with that kind of devil-may-care attitude.

Let's clarify just how 'direct' I'm advising you to be. Another study had the poor research assistants asking random people of the opposite gender another three types of questions, to determine the gender differences of sexual interest (these were all asked point-blank and cold, no lead-ins): asking for a date ("would you go out with me tonight?"), a personal visit ("would you come over to my apartment?"), and sex ("would you go to bed with me?"). Two studies were run, one with a male researcher asking a random female and one with a female asking a random male. In the date condition, both gender runs had about a 50% success rate. In the visit condition, only 6% of the random females agreed; 69% (yes, that's the statistic; har har har) of the random males agreed. In the sex condition, none of the random females agreed (the researcher got responses such as "Are you insane? Leave me alone!"); while 75% of the random males agreed.

Commentary: Either gender is rather willing to have a date with a random stranger, which should be a rocket ego booster for anyone who's debating asking out that person you just can't seem to get up the courage to talk to. As for the rest of the data, isn't it interesting that more guys agreed to the implication and promise of sex than agreed to a date? ROFL! I'm pretty sure the "random people" were a truly random population, not only representative of the "stereotypical college students". As for the relation to how direct to be in a pickup line, obviously you oughtn't flat out state you'd like to take her home nor anything beyond that.

In summary, distinctly--but not overtly--communicate interest, and take the interaction from there.

Truly the best pick up line that will work 100% of the time

So as a person who believes to be a PUA, having tried countless pick up lines, and ways of approaching girls here is the NUMBER ONE line you should use every time!

"Hello, i'm _______" replace the ___ with your name! That's it, if the girl is interested she starts talking to you or at least exchanges her name with you then you continue form there!!!

Can you kiss it better?

Now, this is a coy one for girls (don't know how it would work on guys), but saying "ouch I bit my lip, can you kiss it better?" was one that I think I used in grade 8 or something.

I asked my partner, and he said he heard a great one in a movie saying "excuse me, have you seen my congressional medal of honor anywhere?"
